Ac Milan’s Scudetto hopes increased after this midweek results which saw the Rossoneri defeated Atalanta 2-0 while current league leader, Juventus bagged a surprising 1-1 draw against relegation battler, Lecce in Turin.
That results trimmed down the gap between those two Italian giants into just one point now with two games left to play in Serie A, making things will definitely get interesting next weekend especially since Massimiliano Allegri’s team will be playing against their city rival, Inter Milan.
Starting the match with three points behind Juventus, Milan showed their strong will in getting important results on the night as Allegri’s men were immediately on the attack right from kick off, creating several goal scoring chances. After series of saves from Atalanta’s keeper, Consigli, the Rossoneri eventually opened the scoring through Sulley Muntari’s low shot from inside the penalty area after receiving a cross from Kevin Prince Boateng.
The match got rather even after that early goal although Milan still have more of the possession but their attack were lather messy in the final third, giving Atalanta defenders some rest bite at the back. Things got tense in the second half but suddenly the Rossoneri were pumping up again in the final 10 minutes after hearing the news about Juve’s result against Lecce, Allegri’s boys eventually netted their winning goal on extra time, thanks to Robinho’s header, pouncing out the rebound from Ibrahimovic’s saved free kick.
In Turin, Gianluigi Buffon, could be the player held responsible should the Turin giant really lost the Scudetto this season as the goal keeper made a howler which lead into Lecce’s equalizer in the last five minutes from Bertolacci. Before that equalizing effort, Juventus were pretty much cruising their way into another victory after already taking the lead on 8th minute through Claudio Marchisio’s header which flew passed Benassi.
Things couldn’t get more easier for Juventus after Lecce were down to 10 men early in the second half after Cuadrado received his second booking in the game. However, things turned to misery five minutes from time when Buffon’s brave attempt in dribbling the ball inside his penalty area cost him dearly. Bertolacci successfully nicked the ball from the Italian number one’s feet and easily scored for his team and simply made the Scudetto race wide open.
