With some of the world’s best talent in their squad, many would expect AC Milan to dominate this season in the Serie A. However, after last night’s draw with Lazio in Rome, the Italian giants find themselves in 8th place with only 5 points.
Arch rivals Inter Milan have already opened up a 5 point lead over the Rossoneri with only 4 games played. Milan vice president Adriano Galliani is just as surprised as most of us to see Milan collecting only 2 points from their last 3 games.
“I was hoping we would have had more points at this stage,” Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“But it’s early to give judgements. We play every three days and the evaluations are influenced by results.”
What is even more surprising is the fact that Allegri failed to utilise his options wisely. A midfield comprising Pirlo, Seedorf and Gattuso was too slow for the likes of Ibrahimovic, Boateng and Ronaldinho.
Moreover playing Robinho for only 3 minutes of the 90 shows did not appease the fans. Its not that Milan cannot win, its just that Allegri does not know how to fashion a winning formula.
Speaking to the press after he match Allegri refused to admit that his job was on the line after only 4 games.
“I liked the way we played this evening, as we were solid, but relaxed too much after we scored,” the coach said to Sky Sport after the match.
“We don’t need to run our own race with Inter. We need to keep on gathering as many points as possible. We are Milan and always need to win, but we are on the right path.”
Milan welcome Genoa to the San Siro on Sunday in match that is expected to elicit mixed reactions from the fans. Both teams have an intense rivalry dating back to 1995 when a Genoa fan was stabbed and killed during a league against Milan.
It remains to be seen the changes Allegri will make for the match.
