Champions League Draw Fails To Excite As Top Clubs Escape Each Other

AC Milan have been drawn against defending champions Barcelona in the quarter finals of the Champions League. The draw carried out in UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland however, failed to produce any other notable ties as all big clubs avoided each other.

Record holding Real Madrid seemed to get the easiest tie after drawing Cypriot side APOEL. If history is anything to go by, then the 9 time winners should easily overcome APOEL having beaten Cypriot sides 12-0 and 14-1 in their past meetings.

Here is a complete list of the last eight fixtures

APOEL v Real Madrid

Marseille v Bayern Munich

Benfica v Chelsea

AC Milan v Barcelona

However, despite the easy fixture, Jose Mourinho’s focus remains squarely on the La Liga title as is evident by prior remarks:

“The league is a very important competition. It is possible that a side that isn’t the best wins the Champions League but that is not the case with the league,”

“It is possible to win the double or end up with nothing as football is like that The Champions League gives you the glory but the championship shows the best side over eleven months and we are not going to give any points away.”

Another interesting fixture that should provide much entertainment is the Marseille v Munich match. After having knocked out Inter in dramatic fashion, the French side cannot be underestimated especially with Didier Deschamps at the helm.

It is now possible to get a rough picture who the finalist will be and for many (myself excluded), they are already talking about a Real-Barca final. I iam holding out for a Real Madrid-Chelsea/Milan final.
