Second place AC Milan lost vital ground to Inter Milan last night in the Italian Serie A after losing 1-0 away to Parma. Milan’s loss coupled with Roma’s 2-0 win over Bologna pushed them further down the league standings to position three. Although they have the same number of points, Roma moved up to position 2 because of their better goal difference.
With the games getting fewer and fewer, Milan’s hope rests with Roma. Roma play Inter on Saturday and a win for the Giallorossi would give Milan a lifeline in the scudetto title race.
Parma striker Valeri Bojivon scored late in the game to put a huge dent in Milan’s title hopes. At this stage of the season, 4 points is a very big margin. Milan will have to ensure they win all their remaining games and in the process hope that Inter and Roma falter. Things get a little bit harder as Milan host Lazio at the San Siro on Sunday. Although in 15th place in the table, Lazio are not to be underestimated.
Milan’s rookie coach Leonardo has so far done a good job at the club. After a terrible start to the season, Milan under the Brazilian’s guidance have played some good football to push them up to second in the league. Their inconsistency however is their major undoing. No one doubts that Milan have the talent and class to win the league. Their starting line up includes world class stars who know what it feels like to win major titles.
Ronaldinho’s dream of winning an Italian title might be fading unless the Rossoneri step up in their remaining 8 games. It would be exciting to see the title race go down to the last match day with Inter, Milan and Roma all having a chance at becoming champions. I still believe that anything is possible and i am not ruling out any of these three teams just yet.
