AC Milan beat Palermo 3-1 to go top of the Serie A table yesterday. Goals from Pato, Ibrahimovic and Robinho gave the Rossoneri the 3 points and gave under fire coach Massimiliano Allegri some respite after a tough few weeks in Serie A and Europe. Allegri has however, maintained that it is still too early to talk about winning the scudetto.
“It is too early to be speaking about the Scudetto. We are only 11 matches into the season, and the table is only now forming. “Every match is difficult as every team wants to claim points. In order to bring home the three points, a team needs quality, technical ability, tactics and sacrifice.”
Milan’s lead a top the table could however be short lived as they prepare to face arch rivals Inter Milan at the San Siro on Sunday. Inter who were held to a 1-1 draw for the second consecutive match by Lecce like Milan will also be without key players who are suffering from injury. Milan’s injury list inlcude’s Filipo Inzaghi, Pato and Pirlo.
Inter on the other hand will have to do without Sneijder, Samuel and Milito who is a doubt for the clash. Last night’s results are set to compound Benitez’s problems, with many believing the champions should get rid of the former Liverpool boss before things get worse.
“We are all in agreement that we created many chances that hit the post. “I have already said that the wheel of fortune will eventually turn in our favour.
“Every season is different to the previous one, and when you talk about a team that won everything and changed coach, it is difficult.”
Benitez is right, it is difficult, especially with Milan and Juventus threatening to end the Nerazzurri’s dominance this season. Inter might be the most supported team in the Serie A, however with results like this, disquiet in the team camp is bound to set in. And when it does, Benitez job will get even harder.
