What a fine weekend it was across Europe as a number of top notch clubs produced fantastic results in the respective leagues. The biggest result was definitely, Real Madrid’s 7-1 home win over Osasuna.
In neighbouring Italy, champions AC Milan beat Catania 4-0 to move into 3rd place as the eagerly awaited clash between Juventus and Napoli failed to get underway as bad weather hampered the fixture.
The result sees Juventus relinquish their hold on position one to Udinese and Lazio who won their respective fixtures to move top of the table as joint leaders with 21 points from 10 matches.
The night however, belonged to Milan duo Ibrahimovic and Robinho who produced scintillating performances to see the Rossoneri continue on their winning streak in the Serie A.
Robinho’s goal was definitely a beauty to behold and is definitely a contender for the goal of the season. The same was true in Germany for league leader Bayern Munich who were 2-1 winners over FC Ausburg.
Ligue 1 leaders PSG were not so lucky as their they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bordeaux. That however did not see them lose their top spot position in the league as their nearest contenders Montpelie were also held to a barren draw by St Etienne.
Back to Spain and the 2 top players in the league Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, were doing what they know best. A moment of inspired ingenuity in the dying minutes of the game by the Barca star ensured the Catalans secured a vital point from the game.
In Madrid, Ronaldo bagged a hat trick as Los Merengues thumped Osasuna 7-1 to extend their lead in La Liga by 3 points. This results marks the end for league action at least for the next week or so as attention shifts to the international calendar where key international fixtures (friendlies and competitive fixtures) will be played beginning Friday into the new week.
