Lionel Messi is looking to recover faster than expected as the Argentinian was able to train with the Catalan club on Friday for the first time since his surgery.
Messi picked up his injury when Barcelona took on Atletico Madrid last week. Late in the game, Tomas Ujfalusi, made a vicious challenge on Messi that resulted in Messi having to be taken off the field on a stretcher. Although the injury looked to be serious, it turned out that it wasn’t as bad as it looked. Still an ugly and dangerous challenge by Ujfalusi, Barcelona should be happy that it didn’t side-line Messi for much longer.
A statement on Barcelona’s official webpage read the following:
“Lionel Messi’s road to recovery took a step forward on Friday as he strolled onto the training pitch for the first time to work on his individual [program]. He has moved up a gear and moved outside along with a coach and worked away from the rest of the first-team squad as he battles to regain full fitness.”
