Messi awarded with Golden Boot

Lionel Messi has been awarded the ‘Golden Boot’ award earlier today for leading the domestic leagues in Europe in goals last season.

“All awards are special, but it is thanks to the help of my teammates that I have won. I just try to play well and do the things as best I can for my team and my coach.” Messi went on to say.

Messi is now one of 4 players who have been able to win all 3 major individual awards:

  • The Golden Boot
  • FIFA World Player of the Year
  • The Golden Ball

The other 3 players were Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo, and Marco van Basten.

It’s a great award for the young Argentinian who is expected to win so much more according to his former National team coach, Diego Maradona. Messi is also praised by his teammates, especially Barcelona captain Carlos Puyol, who went on to say the following:

“He is the best in the world, but he is humble. He improves every day. He is the best player in the world and he demonstrated that he deserves this award.”

Despite his slump in this past World Cup where he failed to score for his Country, Messi still is a dominate player. Messi has scored 2 goals in 3 games for Barcelona in the La Liga season so far but will now be sitting out another game after having suffered an injury due to an ugly challenge.
