Matri Eying to Secure a Spot for Euro 2012

Alessandro MatriJuventus’ striker, Alessandro Matri, will be given a starting spot during Italy’s friendly game against USA this Wednesday and the ex-Cagliari man is hoping he can make the most of his opportunity to boost his Euro 2012 chance.

Matri himself is pretty confident that things will go well especially since he is set to be partnered by Sebastian Giovinco, who is a quality player that could really help the former Ac Milan youth player in doing good in that friendly.

Matri himself actually admitted that losing Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi is indeed a big loss for the Azzurri, but the striker also think that this is the best opportunity for him to convince everyone especially Cesare Prandelli about his qualities. The former Cagliari star promised he will try to give his best for the national team and simply secure a spot for the upcoming Euro or maybe even sealing a permanent place in the national team attacking department.

Giovinco has enormous qualities and I think having him close to me in attack can help me put in a good performance tomorrow. It’s a shame that we are without Giuseppe Rossi and Antonio Cassano, but at the same time this is a good opportunity for me to show what I can do with the Nazionale jersey,” Matri said.

Moreover, Matri also stated that he is currently pretty satisfied with his overall performance this season, although he can’t really be called super sharp in front of goal but the striker have definitely been useful for the Bianconeri. The ex-Milan youth also promised that he will keep on fighting hard to improve his current performance, who still lack a little bit of continuity and consistency at times, though he can suddenly turn to live just like what happened in Juve’s last game against the Rossoneri.

“Up to this moment I am fairly satisfied with what I have achieved this season, but am working to get even better and that is what really counts,” the striker added

Should Italy really lose Cassano and Rossi for the Euro, Matri’s chance in getting into the Azzurri squad is pretty big considering there aren’t much experienced forwards whose hitting form in the league at the moment. However, he must still keep on progressing since Prandelli doesn’t seem to have huge amount of trust on the Juventus man as just yet, simply since the striker’s character is pretty similar with most of other options such as Alberto Gilardino, Giampaolo Pazzini, Fabio Borini or Pablo Osvaldo.
