Not being able to find a space at Inter Milan’s first team squad, young midfielder, McDonald Mariga, reportedly is keen on leaving the Nerazzurri and play for last season’s third place, Napoli, instead.
This news was revealed by Mariga’s agent, Federico Pastorello, who claimed that his client would definitely love a chance to play for the Naples based club next summer and apparently contacts with the Partenopei has already started.
Pastorello revealed that he already held talks with Napoli’s director, Riccardo Bigon, about the possibility of Mariga’s arrival at Naples, but the agent hasn’t stated any hint whether the transfer would definitely happens or not. Pastorello only stated that Mariga has already stated is interest of going to Napoli as leaving the Nerazzurri won’t be considered something that the player would regret at all, which is pretty possible since the Partenopei are looking to build a good project to remain in the top flight of Serie A.
“I have spoken to Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon and his staff about Mariga. The player has given his approval to possibly moving and working for boss Walter Mazzarri next season,” Pastorello stated. “He’d run to Napoli if the move was done and he has no problem with the possibility of leaving Inter.”
Pastorello’s statement pretty much reflected that Mariga probably isn’t that confident about his chance to get much playing time with Inter next season as although they already get a new tactician, Gian Piero Gasperini, the fact that there’s still lot of senior players ahead of him seems to scared off the midfielder. Napoli themselves are still looking for some quality midfielder as they plan to bolster up the quality of their squad ahead of the club’s Champions League campaign in the new season, getting a young talent such as Mariga might actually be a good option for them.
Although the discussions is still at an early stage, there’s a good possibility that it might head into and advanced step especially if Inter decided that they don’t really need Mariga that much. The Naples, who are in the verge of signing Gokhan Inler from Udinese might still need another addition in their midfield area if they want to compete in both Serie A and also Champions League, so in the coming weeks we might see some clear situation regarding this probable transfer.
