Manchester City remain five points clear at the top of the Premier League, while the three big London clubs; Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, all got important wins.
Man City have a massive Champions League match against Bayern Munich this coming week, and they warmed up for that encounter with a 5-1 thrashing of Norwich City. Sergio Agüero’s clever 32nd-minute poke complemented after the break by Samir Nasri’s free-kick and Yaya Touré’s strike. Steve Morison reduced arrears but substitutes Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson replied. City remain five points ahead of Man United, who won 1-0 at Aston Villa thanks to a Phil Jones goal.
Like City and United, Chelsea have a massive midweek Champions League tie and they got a morale boosting 3-0 victory at Newcastle. Frank Lampard’s early penalty was saved by Tim Krul but Chelsea recovered with goals from Didier Drogba and, in the dying minutes, substitute Salomon Kalou and Daniel Sturridge. Chelsea are fourth, behind Spurs who beat ten-man Bolton Wanderers 3-0.
Arsenal are now fifth after their 4-0 victory at Wigan, who went bottom behind Bolton on goal difference as Blackburn Rovers eased the pressure on manager Steve Kean byu beating fellow strugglers Swansea City 4-2 thanks to four goals from Ayegbeni Yakubu.
Finally in mid-table clash, Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich drew 1-1.
