Real Madrid came from behind to beat Levante 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu to move 10 points clear at the top of the La Liga standings last night. A hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo and a Karim Benzema goal cancelled out goals from Gustavo Gabriel Cabral and Arouna Kone.
Despite the win, hat-trick hero Ronaldo is calling for calm in the team camp saying that the league is not a done deal. Speaking to reporters after the match, Ronaldo said that he is keen on continuing with his current impressive form.
“There is still a lot left, we are going to have to wait, We are playing well. This was a hard match in which we got off a bid badly, but then we scored and we changed. We are doing well and we have to continue like this.” “Goals come as a result of work of the team. Personally, I am in a good moment and I want to continue like this.”
It was a good night for Madrid as the win saw them score their 4000th goal at the Bernabeu since it opened in December 1947. Ronaldo had the honour of helping Madrid reach this milestone courtesy of his 3rd goal that came in the 57th minute.
The win also marked Ronaldo’s 13th hat-trick in a Madrid shirt since his mega million dollar move from Manchester United in 2009. Meanwhile, Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has hit out at the press for their consistent reports linking him with a move away from the Bernabeu.
Even though he chose not to comment on the rumours, Mourinho maintained that those interested in news of his eminent departure should ask their ‘imaginary sources’ .
“You should ask your sources, which for you are anonymous but for me more than anonymous are imaginary. [I have] no more to say.”
According to former player Roberto Carlos, Jose Mourinho confessed to him that he will stay with Madrid even after the end of the season. Speaking to Canal Plus, Carlos said that Mourinho is not keen on leaving Madrid.
“He told me he has a running contract and that he will stay, I told him that if he changed his mind, Anzhi would be waiting for him with open arms. He is the best coach in the world.”
