Madrid Crahsed Out Again in Champions League Semi-final

Real Madrid once again have to close their ambition in winning the Champions League, as Jose Mourinho’s squad dramatically eliminated by Baryern Munich at Santiago Bernebau.

The match ended in a 2-1 scoreline for Los Blancos, forcing a penalty shoot out which turned out to be hell for Madrid players as they missed all but one spot kick by Xabi Alonso.

Having to chase a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, Madrid were looking really hungry earlier on as they immediately put Bayern under pressure and eventually resulting in a spot kick for the home team. David Alaba was being judged to handle Angel Di Mari’s shot, although replay showed that it was a rather accidental incident from the Austrian international. Cristiano Ronaldo easily beat Manue Neuer from the spot and simply erased the Bavarian’s advantage.

The early goal stunned Bayern as they upped their tempo in search for an equalizer which they really needed, since losing 1-0 means that Madrid will be the one advancing from the tie. Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez once again troubled Madrid’s defense, but unfortunately none of their chances were capitalized. Against the run of play, Los Blancos grabbed their second once again through Ronaldo, who was left unmarked inside the penalty area, allowing all the time in the world to placed his shot passed Neuer.

The Germans didn’t panicked though with that second goal as they kept on playing their possession football and attacking through the wide areas with Robben and Ribery continuously causing havoc for Madrid. After several failed attempts, luck finally arrived for Bayern as midway in the first period, Gomez was judged of being fouled by Pepe and the referee didn’t hesitate to give a spot kick which was finished off by Robben.

Things got more intense after Bayern’s goal, as both teams were attacking endlessly until the final 90, but poor finishing and fine goal keeping display by their two keepers, kept the score at 2-1, meaning an extra time was needed as both team are tied at 3-3 on aggregate. Unfortunately, tiredness were simply taking the tools on both teams as they looked rather scared in going all out and simply opted to wait for the right moment only before building their attack.

Both teams cautious approached simply made it easy to figure out that a penalty shoot out was needed to separate those two stubborn teams. This is where mentality simply speaks, as Germany’s strong record in the shoot out simply gave Bayern the edge which was proven in the end when Bastian Schweinsteiger coolly slotted the winner which made it 3-1 for the Bavarians. Madrid kickers were simply poor as Ronaldo, Kaka and Ramos all missed, while Bayern only had Philippe Lahm and Tony Kroos missing.
