LLTO La Liga Picks of the Week (Oct. 17)

The Yank is off to a fairly mediocre start this La Liga season in weekly picks and currently sits at 24-14 on the year.  Of course Real Madrid losing a few weeks back likely gave many critics at least one loss and the Yank only missed two games completely and got five correct.  So things are beginning to look up this La Liga season.  But what is in the cards for this week?  Lets see….

Will David Villa play and aid Valencia to a victory over Barcelona?  I wouldn’t bet on it.  It would be very hard to pick against Barca and with a huge player questionable going in, there is no question Barca wins 3-1.  Real Madrid is missing a key player too.  Cristiano Ronaldo will miss at least three or four weeks so Kaka, Benzema, and Raul all need to step up.  This week they will and Valladolid will be the first victim of a strong squad despite losing one of the best.  Real Madrid wins 2-0.

Sevilla is one of the hottest squads in the world right now and Deportivo La Coruna looks to remain a top La Liga contender, but I like Sevilla simply because they are playing some of the best football of any squad around right now.  Sevilla wins 2-1.  The Yellow Submarines will quit sinking and rise to the surface to beat Xerez on the road 2-0.  Espanyol will toast their new stadium a win over Tenerife 1-0.  Athletic Bilbao will continue to stay in their bad spell with a defeat to Sporting Gijon 3-1.

And in the remaining matches: Almeria will get a road win over Malaga 1-0, so will Getafe against Mallorca as well 2-1, Atletico Madrid will continue to improve with a 1-0 win over Osasuna, and new boys Real Zaragoza will win at home over Racing Santander 2-1.
