LLTO Know the Pitch: H. Rodriguez Lopez

Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez is the home of new boys Tenerife and the stadium is located in the Canary Islands of Spain.  Tenerife is playing their first top tier season in some time and H. Rodriguez Lopez Stadium is taking in their first Primera Division action since the 2001/2002 season.  Last year Tenerife was able to seal the third and final seed that granted them promotion.  It will be a tough battle for Tenerife to stay in the league, but if the new boys can get hot then anything can happen.

Tenerife’s stadium is by no means new.  H. Rodriguez Lopez opened in 1925 and has undergone two renovations over its long history.  The first renovation underwent came in the 1940’s and the additions that were made included raising the seating capacity.  The stadium currently seats around 24,000 seats making it slightly below average in the category of stadium capacity.

The second renovation came when all Spanish stadiums were being redone in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.  This process was done to modernize the interi0r of the stadium and several dressing rooms, vendors, and luxery boxes were added inside the stadium.  With two renovations total, Estadio H. Rodriguez Lopez is one of the nicer stadiums for its old age.

Estadio H. Rodriguez Lopez is a multi-purpose stadium, but its only current tenants is Tenerife.  Like all stadiums H. Rodriguez deserves a place in the top tier for a long time, but it is unlikely that it will be significant for too long with Tenerife’s below average club.
