Team Overview: Mallorca, founded in 1916, is still searching for their first Primera Division title. The Barralets have won the Second Division two different times in their history with the last time being in 1964. The club has had some recent success in cup tournaments winning the Copa del Rey in 2003 and finishing as runners-up in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999. They had two impressively-high finishes of third in 1999 and 2000.
Best Performers:
F Aritz Aduriz 11 Goals, 7 Assists
M Jose Jurado 9 Goals, 9 Assists
G Dudu Aouate 1.21 Goals/Game
Highest High: The club was a fairly strong finisher this year. In the last four months of the season, the Barralets did not win less then two games any month. The club won ten of the eighteen watches, securing four ties as well. The thirty-four point total was critical for Mallorca’s level of success this season. The club looks to start next season where they left off last year.
Lowest Low: Mallorca hit a dreadful stretch towards the beginning-middle of the season. The club did not win a match from late October until late January. The club had two entire months in which they did not win a single match (November, December), making for a pretty disappointing holiday season. The club eventually was able to turn around the eleven game winless streak though.
Future: Mallorca’s offense was slightly above the league average with fifty-three total goals. The club also did not have to rely too much on any one man. They were spreading the ball out pretty well between everyone. The club’s defense was below average though. The sixty goals given up is among the league worst. Mallorca needs to tighten up defensively if they want to be contenders in La Liga next season.
