Lionel Messi and Barcelona tie record for most away goals set in 1959

Barcelona has been on a rampage lately and their latest showing against Almeria should have their rivals, Real Madrid, at least somewhat concerned.  The Catalan giants opened a scoring clinic against Almeria at Estadio del Mediterraneo, as they went on to tie Barcelona’s all-time league away victory with an demolishing 8-0 win.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s win, Lionel Messi also went on to score a hat-trick of his own as well Saturday evening. With other goals coming from Bojan Krkic, Andres Iniesta, Pedro and an own goal, the men from Camp Nou took over the top place of La Liga but it would be short-lived as Real Madrid went on to regain their top spot as they defeated Atletic Bilbao.

The match was one-sided through-out the game as Lionel Messi and David Villa worked their magic to open the scoring. With Messi finding 2 more goals later in the match to give him his hat-trick, he also found himself 2 goals ahead of Ronaldo for total goals this season. However, Ronaldo went on to score a hat-trick of his own later that evening giving him back the top-spot in league in goals.

Although both players have been quoted saying that they are not concerned about the Pichichi trophy but much more the league trophy, the way things are shaping up to be, both of these star players are likely to be in the running for the Pichichi honors.

Who do you think will end up with the Pichichi trophy out of these two icons? Think that Barcelona will be able to defeat Los Blancos in El Classico showdown? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
