Lazio’s current success in topping the Serie A table ahead of other Scudetto challengers, notably the Milan duo have surprised many people including one of the Biancoceleste’s important players, Christian Ledesma.
Revealing about the surprise that his club’s done in the early part of the season, Ledesma stated that he is indeed surprise with their achievement but believed that the team should stop looking at the table and concentrate in getting good results in every matches instead.
“It’s a surprise that Lazio are top, but we need to recognise that this group has grown a lot one Sunday after another,” Ledesma said. “But now we mustn’t think about the League table, but about maintaining this spirit and thinking above all about who isn’t playing.”
Although the Aquilotti did manage to get some important signings this season such as Sao Paolo’s ex-star, Hernanes, still considering the club’s last season’s achievement, no one could predict they could make a good start in the league. This might give a conclusion that Lazio are stronger this season, but once again Ledesma dismissed that thought as he feels it’s still too early to judge his team’s strength this year.
“We can’t tell if we are stronger or more mature than in previous seasons. Only time and our performances on the pitch will demonstrate that,” the midfielder added.
Ledesma seems very careful in stating his thought about Lazio’s current achievement as the season is still long and with many difficult fixtures ahead it will only be right to judge a team’s potential at least until half way of the season. That moment when usually the big clubs such as Milan, Inter, Juve or maybe Roma starts to find their rhythm and keep getting important victories, should the Biancoceleste can keep up the pace during that period they can indeed be considered as challengers.
Meanwhile, aside from talking about his club’s current achievement, Ledesma also reveals his other wish in the future which is getting a call up for the Italian national team and play for the Azzurri. The Argentinian born player who has an Italian passport is reportedly being considered by the national team’s coach, Cesare Prandelli, to be included in his team’s set up for the Euro 2012.
“I am happy that Prandelli is watching me. I too hope to get there one day,” Ledesma stated.
