Having really close in challenging Ac Milan for the Scudetto challenge, Napoli started to crumble in the last two matches as the Southern Italian team suffered defeats against Udinese and Palermo that saw them slipping into third place again behind Inter Milan.
This condition sparks a little bit disappointment in the club’s camp and also many fans but the Partenopei’s star, Ezequiel Lavezzi tried to calm things down by stating that they shouldn’t be unhappy as their achievement so far has actually been beyond expectation.
Lavezzi admitted that their recent two defeats left a bitterness for him and his teammates, but the excitement that they’ve caused in Naples this season is something that should keep them going even if they lose the title challenge. The Argentinian international also stated that their achievement this season can already be labeled as a historic one, as last season they hasn’t even managed to compete for the Champions League spot in the end of season.
It’s only normal that there’s a little unhappiness after two defeats on the trot, but we must not let our heads drop. We are still having an historic season, Nothing can cancel out what we have achieved up to this moment. We sent an entire city crazy with joy. That seems like a lot to me,” Lavezzi said.
The Argentinian seems trying to change the attitude of the team that kept on failing once they set over optimistic statement in the last few matches, by being realistic Lavezzi surely hopes that his teammates won’t roll over again in the remaining matches. Next week, Napoli will host Genoa at home and a win should be targeted in order to redeem the disappointment the Partenopei have been having in the last two league matches.
With four matches left in the league, mathematically this weekend would be the most decisive moment for Napoli on whether they still have a slim shot at the title or at least determining their finish in the league table. At the moment, the Partenopei are nine points behind Milan and there’s still a bit chance to catch up if the Rossoneri somehow breaks down in their last four games but a win for the league leader this week will seal all of the Southern Italian team’s hope for Scudetto this season.
