I am happy to announce that it is time for the Yank’s Weekly Picks. And you know what that means, right? That means it is also time for the start of La Liga football. And with all the action going on in La Liga this off-season it feels like an eternity since last season finished.
In the first match of the season fans of La Liga will get to see what they have been waiting for. Real Madrid kicks off their season at home against Deportivo La Coruna. We have to go with Madrid on this one. They spent a few hundred million more dollars then Deportivo did this off-season. Final score 3-1 Madrid. Later on Saturday Real Zaragoza will battle Tenrife in a match of new squads. Zaragoza’s experience as a former top tier squad will help them out in a 2-0 victory.
On Sunday Malaga will face off against powerhouse Athletico Madrid at home. Athletico Madrid should win despite being on the road in a 2-0 victory. Osasuna plays host to Villareal, but once again the dominant away team should prevail thanks to a stronger offense. Villareal wins 3-0. Racing Santander will match up against Getafe in a game of middle of the pack squads trying to get a head start on avoiding the relegation zone. This one is very close to call, but we like Racing Santander at home 1-0.
In an emotional test, Espanol will continue the campaign without recently deceased captain Daniel Jarque and persevere to a heart warming 1-0 road victory over Athletic Bilbao. Mallorca will be too much for new boys Xerez 2-0. Almeria will narrowly defeat Valladolid 1-0. Barca will embarrass Sporting Gijon at home 4-0 and in our Game of the Week we will go with Valencia’s offense to defeat Sevilla’s excellent defense 2-1.
