Having a tough time while playing in Germany with Wolfsburg gave Simon Kjaer strong appreciation towards his new club As Roma, who the Danish international felt has pretty much rescued his career which turning bleak during his short Bundesliga spell.
Kjaer revealed that although it’s just the start of season in Serie A, he already enjoyed being in Rome and playing in the league that once orbited his his talent, something that almost didn’t happened since his previous club could actually sell him somewhere else.
Being at Roma now is simply fantastic. I’m incredibly happy with my switch and it came as an enormous relief to me. I had a very frustrating time in Germany and I knew that the club could have sold me to another side,” Kjaer revealed.
Kjaer was pretty much a wanted man in the summer as several clubs in Italy were reportedly interested on acquiring him especially after his club, Wolfsburg, didn’t really impressed with the Danish international’s performances. Despite many offers, the 22-years-old center back dropped his choice on the capital club merely because Roma’s new director, Walter Sabatini, was someone he knew back when the defender played with Palermo few seasons ago.
Kjaer’s good relationship with Sabatini gave the player’s an insurance that his future could be much better since that’s what pretty much happened during the player’s time in Sicilly, which gave him lots of praises. During his time with Palermo, the Danish international was being considered as one of the most talented youngster in Serie A, boasting many interest from big clubs, but surprisingly the defender chose a move to Bundesliga, which didn’t turned out successful for him.
In Roma, Kjaer is being touted as the replacement for Philippe Mexes, who moved to Ac Milan in the summer, leaving a space in the club for another quality defender and the Danish looked to be the main man as he already played three games for the Giallorossi so far. The 22-years-old performances in those matches have also been promising as the defender looked to be on his way in re-claiming his fine seasons with Palermo, which helped him grabbing the headline in Serie A football.
