With a record like this: 33 goals in 63 appearances for Coritiba and 5 goals in 7 appearances for Palmeiras, Keirrison de Souza Carneiro is definitely a player on the rise. Born in Douardos Brazil on December 3 1988, Keirrison is another emerging star from this football mad country. It is no wonder European champs Barcelona paid a hefty 14 million euros to acquire his services.
Currently on loan at Benfica, keirrison began his senior career in 2007 when he became a regular in Coritiba’s main squad. He helped the club win the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B for which they were promoted to the Serie A. He was the clubs top scorer in that competition finishing with 12goal.
In 2008, he scored 18 goals to emerge the top scorer of the Campeonato Paranaense. He played his first Serie A game on May 11 2008 where they beat Palmeiras 2-0. His first goal however, came in July in their 4-0 win over Portuguesa.
From then on their was no stopping him.He earned his first hat-trick barely a month later in their 3-1 win over Santos. He finished last years Campeonato Serie A as top scorer with 21 goals to his name. This earned him the record of being the youngest top scorer in the history of Brazil.
He joined Palmeiras in January 2009 and he made his debut on the 24th of the same month against Mogi Mirim. He scored twice to give Palmeiras a 3-0 win. He again scored a brace in their 5-1 thrashing of Real Potosi in the preliminaries of the Copa Libertadores.
Barcelona made an offer for Keirrison on June 26 2009 and on July 23 2009 he moved to the Nou Camp. He signed a five year contract before being loaned toBenfica. He is yet to start scoring in Europe ;but be warned he is one player to keep an eye on.
