If you are a Juventus fan, then you must really be agonizing over their current form. Juventus were beaten 3-1 by Bari on Saturday. This loss means that the Old Lady is now badly off the pace in the Serie A title race. I have to say that that was a result i was not expecting.
After being eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich last week, i expected Juve to fully turn their focus to the Serie A and make up for their humiliating 4-1 home defeat. Bari should have provided them with the right platform to at least give them hope of wining some silverware this season.
However, the nightmare just seems to be getting worse for Juventus with every game they play. Like i had earlier said, their Coach Ciro Ferrara is in deep danger of losing his job. I highly doubt if he will make it through to the end of the season.
Bari were the first to draw blood early in the game thanks to a Riccardo meggiorini deflected shot. Juve responded in the 23rd minute through their striker David Trezeguet. Bari were still not done and just before half-time, they restored their league.
Juventus missed a penalty mid way through the 2nd half to further compound their misery and it was their former player Sergio Almiron who put the last nail in juve’s coffin when he scored Bari’s 3rd with only 9 minutes left in the game.
To me this loss is not good for the title race. There is need for a very high level of competition amongst Italian clubs if they are to be once again considered as every players’ dream destination. An Inter Milan domination of the league therefore might be good for the club but it is deadly for the league.
As it stands right now, the Serie A is the 3rd best league in Europe after the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga. Considering the number of stars plying their trade in Italy, this is a very hard scenario to fathom. Juventus need to get back to wining ways fast if not for themselves then at least for the league.
