Juventus keeps the pressure on league leader, Ac Milan, after victorious again at the Derby D’Italia by beating Inter Milan 2-0 with goals from Martin Caceres and also Alessandro Del Piero.
It wasn’t an easy game for the Turin giant as their keeper, Gianluigi Buffon, was forced to make some heroic stops before his team eventually managed to score their goals and simply shattered Inter’s confidence.
Playing in front of their home supporters, Juventus started the match in a fast pace and simply dominated Inter for at least the first 15 minutes before the pressure started to ware off as the scoreline remained goalless. The Nerazzurri seemed to improve after the onslaught as they could’ve scored some goals through Diego Forlan and Diego Milito if it were not for Buffon’ wonderful saves, which were simply vital in keeping the Turin giant from conceding.
Unfortunately for the Nerazzurri, things simply changed in the second period when Caceres scored the opening goal after a poor defending which saw the Uruguayan defender left unmarked in the penalty area. The goal simply stunned Inter players, who were looking to look very dangerous by the end of first period but was forced to chase down a goal, which would be very difficult considering their poor confidence at the moment.
Things got worse for Inter moments later, when Del Piero breach into the Nerazzurri’s defense and put his shot easily passed Julio Cesar, doubling Juventus’ lead in the game and pretty much sealed the deal. Inter never managed to come back from that goal as their hope of chasing the fourth place spot simply gets slimmer as they would need some strong morale boost to eventually get their winning run back on track again.
Meanwhile, Lazio looking to break free from in the third place spot as they are the only team from the Champions League chasers, that managed all three points on the weekend. Mobito Diakite’s goal was more than enough to bring all three points for the capital side as they saw the likes of Napoli and Udinese drawing, while Roma lose against Ac Milan.
Napoli could be considered as the most disappointing chasers as they wasted a two goals lead at home against Catania, who managed to force a draw in the final minutes, stopping Walter Mazzarri’s side dream of another Champions League in hold. Things will be difficult for the Partenopei next weekend as they must travel to Turin and face the current runners up, Juventus, which are chasing Milan in the top of Serie A.
