Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has said that his player Cristiano Ronaldo is the Best footballer in the world. Of course, this comes as no surprise if you consider that both of them are from the same country.
The Cristiano-Messi debate has been raging on for close to two years now with many still divided over who is the best. There is no denying the fact that both of them are very skilled players, however, in my opinion, Messi has an edge over Ronaldo.
May be its because i have really liked Ronaldo or may be its because of how he was over rated by the British media while he was playing for Manchester United. Anyway, Messi to me encompasses the definition of a world class star. He might not be having the best of starts to this season, however, he still remains as one of if not the best players in the world.
Jose Mourinho however thinks otherwise. According to him, Ronaldo is the superior of both players. Speaking to Telemadrid Mourinho said that Ronaldo comes first then Messi.
“There are two options – Cristiano, and Messi. If you consider Cristiano to be one, then Messi is two. But for me it is clear – Cristiano is number one.”
Now Jose Mourinho’s word might carry a lot of weight considering the fact that what he says tends to come true most of the time however, his assertions raise questions as to who will win the coveted price this year.
The shortlist is not out but some of the players expected to feature include Wayne Rooney who had a stellar season last year, Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba amongst other.
It will be a tight race but, i have a strong feeling that this year’s award will go to Dutchman Wesley Sneijder. The Dutch play maker was instrumental in Inter’s treble win and was also voted by fans of a popular website as the best player of the season.
Meanwhile Jose Mourinho revealed that his biggest agenda as Madrid coach will be to win the Champions League.
“The Champions League is the competition of competitions. It’s the most important and largest in terms of quality.
“I do not want to sound selfish, but I want the Champions League this year because I want to defend my title, but to also bring it to Real Madrid where it belongs.”
