Jose Antonio Camacho — Still Coaching

Osasuna’s coach, Jose Antonio Comacho, continues to coach as he nears his 54th birthday.

He was able to celebrate today because his club enjoyed an impressive victory 3-1 over Almeria as his Spanish side won for the first time in the 2008-09 La Liga campaign.

As a player, Jose Antonio Camacho joined Real Madrid as a teenager.  He played over 400 league matches at left-back for the club beginning in 1973 and ending his professional career in 1989.  He was capped 81 times by Spain and played in two World Cups (1982 and 1986).  He also competed with Spain at Euro 1984 and 1988.

His coaching portfolio includes: Rayo Vallecano, RCD Espanyol, Sevilla FC, RCD Espanyol, the Spanish national team, SL Benfica, Real Madrid, and CA Osasuna.  He twice coached Portuguese side SL Benfica with the second time being last season.  He joined Osasuna in October 2008 after José Ángel Ziganda’s sacking.

Can his return keep Osasuna from being relegated?  We will find out next spring.
