ITA MNT Mission 2010: Director Lippi

Briefing: Director Marcello Lippi (aka “Generalissimo”) was a decent player back in his day, but he was never good enough to join the MNT. While he never reached the MNT as a player, his wealth of experience in Serie A made him an ideal candidate to enter coaching at the end of his career. Since then, he has directed the activites of 12 teams.

Special Skills: Director Lippi learned how to lead by coaching teams all over Italy. He had his most success with Juventus, where he won several league titles and a Champions League trophy. Unlike many Italian coaches, he is not bound to one rigid tactical formula, and he prefers to extend his agents some creative license, which they appreciate.

International Actions: Director Lippi took the reins of the MNT in 2004 after former Director Trapattoni was blamed for a botched mission that year. He guided the team through a difficult and scandalous time and his wise strategies resulted in the MNT winning Mission 2006. He retired just after the win, but he has been wooed back.

Mission: Director Lippi’s mission, should he decide to accept it, is to select the MNT agents for Mission 2010 and then design their assault on their opponents in South Africa. He will need to suppress many agents’ large egos and keep his squad sharp in order to lead them to a second straight title. This message will self-destruct in five seconds.
