AS Roma have set up an enticing Coppa Italia final date with Inter Milan after beating Udinese 2-1 on aggregate. Although the Giallorosso lost 1-0 on Tuesday night at the Stadio Friuli, Udinese’s slender win was not enough to take them through to the final. Buy Coppa Italia Final Tickets
Roma went into this match on the back of a 2 goal lead from their first leg tie and considering their recent run of form, many expected them to win. However, Udinese had other plans on their mind.
With a full strength forward line that included: Simone Pepe, Antonio di Natale and Alexis Sanchez, Udinese’s coach Pasquale Marino made his intentions very clear. The Zebrette were to attack from kick-off to the final whistle.
Pepe created the first chance of the game when his weak shot from the edge of the penalty box was saved by Roma goalie Sergio. The only goal of the night however, came with about 8 minutes left on the clock when Alexis Sanchez slid the ball between Sergio’s legs after coolly holding off Riise in a 50/50 challenge.
Roma however progressed through to the final at the expense of Udinese as their goal was not enough to overturn Roma’s lead. Roma now face an Inter side that they beat 2-1 in the league earlier on in the year. The rivalry between these two sides will only escalate as Roma are on course to win the scudetto. A trophy Inter has won for the last 4 years.
Meanwhile, Inter coach Jose Mourinho is a very surprised man after learning that Roma captain Francesco Totti escaped severe punishment from the Italian FA following the provactive gestures he made on Sunday during their Rome derby against Lazio. Totti escaped suspension and only received a fine that according to Jose Mourinho was not fair.
“I got a three-week ban for my handcuffs gesture and the one who has done thumbs-down gestures gets just a fine,” Mourinho said after Inter’s 3-1 triumph over Barcelona in the Champions League. “It’s incredible, it’s better to talk about the Champions League.”
