Inter Lose To Udinese

It will be hard to see Inter Milan pick themselves up from there latest setback after going down 1-0 to Udinese yesterday in a result that leaves them in 15th place on the Serie A table with 2/3 of the season left to play.

Currently 13 points off the pace set by leaders and city rivals Milan, Inter need to start wining if they are too force their way into the top half of the table. However, by the look of it, the Nerazzurri won’t have an easy ride.

In fact getting into the top half is one thing, they also have to fight for a top four finish if they want to play in the Champions League next season. Napoli, Udinese and Lazio are however proving that they are among the 5 best teams by right and not luck.

So its another loss for Inter and Claudio Ranieri. Ranieri could however claim  that the scoreline does not reflect the true picture of the match, the truth is, at the end of the game the only thing that matters is the result.

Speaking after the match, Udinese Coach Francesco Guidolin explained his delight at Pazzini’s penalty miss.

“When Pazzini was about to take the penalty I was really hoping (goalkeeper Samir) Handanovic could do something,”

“We deserved the victory. It was a heart-stopping game but I’m pleased with my players’ performance. It doesn’t always happen that Udinese wins at San Siro. To be at the top is marvellous, we’re picking up more and more points.”
Ranieri on the other hand said that it was back to the drawing board for him as he tries to pick up his team from their latest loss.
“We tried to put Udinese in difficulty but their players were good and hit us on the counterattack,”

“It’s a pity because this game could have been the turning point. But we’ll continue to work hard, as we are doing. I’m always confident but we have to aim for something. If we’re getting too far away from the title there are other things to aim for and we have to try and get close to them.”
Second placed Juventus will be in action later on today against Cesena at home in match that they are easily expected to win.
