The bitter taste of defeat is never pleasant especially if you are used to winning. Defending champions Inter Milan who were accustomed to this rare experience under the tactful eye of former coach Jose Mourinho might just have to accept that their dominance in the league might be coming to an end.
The Nerazzurri did not lose yesterday but their draw against Brescia at home left them just 2 points above city rivals Milan who could go second if they beat Bari. Moreover, the Rossoneri will be hoping that Roma can do them a favour by beating Lazio to effectively cut their lead to just 2 points.
Once again Samuel Eto’o scored the leveler after Brescia had taken an early lead through a Caracciolo strike in the 14th minute. Speaking to SkySport after the match, Inter coach Rafa Benitez stated that his side were missing key players and hence the result.
“We were riddled by injuries tonight,”
“Samuel has a knee injury whilst Sneijder was forced out due to a migraine problem. Earlier in the game we lost Maicon through another muscular problem.
“The boys created a number of chances out there and we could have stolen the victory late on.”
So Inter caped a bad week with a draw at home. My only question is whether Benitez can lead Inter to successfully defend their Serie A and Champions League titles this season?
It might be early days in the league however, Inter cannot afford to stumble now. In my opnion, Benitez was never the right man for the job. With Hiddink open to the coaching role, Moratti should have at least considered hiring a man who’s results speak for themselves.
In such situations, Inter only have 2 options. Stick with Benitez or find another replacement pronto! If i were Moratti, i would seriously consider the last option at least at the end of the season.
