Injury Woes For Benitez

The bitter pill of defeat only got worse for defending Serie A and UEFA Champions League champs Inter Milan as their title winning striker Diego Milito suffered a hamstring injury in his sides 1-0 loss to rivals AC Milan on Sunday keeping him out of the Nerazzurri’s line up for the next 2 weeks.

Milito who is only just returning from an earlier injury that sidelined him for most of the early part of the season will now miss Inter’s next matches against Parma, Chievo and their must win Champions League against FC Twente.

A statement on the club’s official website reads:

“At the end of Inter-Milan, Joel Obi and Diego Milito were examined by Prof. Franco Combi, of the F.C. Internazionale medical team, to ascertain the injuries suffered in the first half of yesterday’s game.

The exams highlighted that the Nigerian suffered a second degree muscle pull in his left hamstring. The Argentine striker had instead suffered a first degree muscle pull at the base of his left hamstring.”

Milito is lucky to be out for only 2 weeks. Hamstring injuries are career ending injuries. However, as it appears, Milito’s first degree hamstring injury will keep him out of action for a fortnight.

Meanwhile, Under fire coach Rafa Benitez still believes his side will get back to winning ways. With huge support from Inter President Massimo Moratti, Benitez is calling for calm in the team camp.

“I am glad I have the support of the president,”

“On Sunday evening after the derby, I spoke to Massimo Moratti.

“We are all disappointed, but I am working with him and [Marco] Branca to improve the side over the January transfer window.

“The situation is neither terrible nor great. I feel the side are going through an evolutionary phase.”

Benitez is right, the situation is not terrible, however, if urgent steps are not taken Inter’s treble winning feat will quickly be replaced by their equally amazing slump.

Inter fans should also accept the fact that the Spaniard is not going anywhere anytime soon and should instead look for avenues that they can start working together. My only worry is whether Benetiz has a plan that can change their situation because by the look of things i believe he does not.
