Barcelona’s star, Andres Iniesta looking forward for their weekend tie against Atletico Madrid as they continue their attempt in chasing current leader, Real Madrid, who are already 10 points ahead of the Catalan squad.
The midfielder acknowledged that his team have been dropping too many points this season in the league so they must not lose more points this weekend especially if Barca still want to keep up with Los Blancos.
However, despite the strong need for three points, Iniesta also warned his teammates that it wont be an easy task against Atletico, especially since the Madrid based outfit have been performing really well under new coach, Diego Simeone. The Spanish international midfielder do hope that their recent league victory against Valencia would provide the needed morale boost which could help them in getting all three points against Simeone’s side.
We’ve dropped far too many points and that’s reflected in the league table. Every game is very difficult, but this is even harder given that we’re away from home and playing Atlético … But we’re looking forward to it and keen to get another three points. Our idea is to go there and win,” Iniesta stated.
Meanwhile, commenting about the current gap Barcelona had with Madrid, Iniesta admitted that it’s a very difficult situation for his side, but his team have a plan in trying to cope with that issue. According to the Spanish international, the Catalan squad will simply just try to focus on getting three points in one game after another, hoping that when Jose Mourinho squad’s slip, Barca can sneak in bit by bit.
“A considerable advantage, but our only thoughts are on getting points three by three. That will make us more competitive in the Champions League and the final of the Copa del Rey. In the league, if Madrid drop any points, we have to be there just in case,” Iniesta added.
Chasing the current 10 points gap from Madrid are obviously difficult on paper, especially since Madrid aren’t looking to lose many points against other La Liga teams aside from Barcelona themselves. However, just like Iniesta stated, as long as there’s still opportunities, the Catalan side must keep on trying their best to at least continue putting on some pressure for Mourinho’s team, while simply hoping that the Los Blancoes would eventually slipped in the next few more games.
