Iker Casillas has been with Real Madrid since the start of his career and has risen from the youth ranks in which he made his debut for the first team in 1997. However, with the arrival of Jose Mourinho, Casillas starting role may be in jeopardy as Mourinho has been rumored with looking for a new keeper.
Although Casillas does not wan’t to leave his long-time club, that does not mean that he will not be looking at some of the offers that he has been receiving.
Iker Casillas went on to say the following to the Daily Star Sunday :
“I am aware of the interest of both Manchester United and City. I’m always flattered whenever another club shows interest in my qualities as a goalkeeper. I have been at Real Madrid all my career and I still enjoy going to training every day. I enjoy meeting the fans too – but we all know how uncertain things are in football. I’m not going to say never. Right now Madrid would have to kick me out of the club before I consider a move. Who knows what will happen, though, if a big money offer comes in.”
With 2 of the top clubs in the English Premier League looking to sign Iker Cassillas and with Jose Mourinho having been thought to be in the market for a new keeper, I doubt Cassillas will reject offers from Manchester United or Manchester City unless Mourinho is planning on having him start.
Although Real Madrid did finish 2nd in the league, Jose Mourinho is looking to add some players to the squad that will help drive Madrid to a first place finish. Even with new added stars like Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Xabi Alonso, the club failed to meet it’s expectations of finishing first in La Liga and now Mourinho is going to look into signing some new players. With Mourinho having the natural ability to drive a club to the top as we seen what he has been able to accomplish with Inter Milan last season, it will be interesting in seeing what Mourinho will be doing and what moves he considers making.
Think Iker Casillas will make a move from Madrid? Would you rather him stay at Madrid or make the move to either Manchester City or United? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
