According to reports from Aftonbladet, AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic revealed that their humiliating Champions League loss to Arsenal on Tuesday night was in part due to Allegri’s tactics. Ibrahimovic who was completely out of the match at the Emirates, revealed that he was never comfortable with Allegri’s 4-3-3 formation and it showed.
Truth be told, Milan should be happy the scoreline remain the same after the break because had they lost the match, they would have never lived down the bashing they would have received from the British media. However, Unfortunately for the home side, their failure to convert the opportunities that came their way meant they would have to wait another season to win their maiden European title.
Speaking to Aftonbladet after the match, Ibrahimovic revealed that Allegri totally got his tactics wrong.
“I felt out of position for the entire time that we played with three strikers, We tried to calm each other down at half-time but it was not an easy situation,”
“It’s a relief that we’re through to the next round. Every time they attacked you started thinking: ‘what if they score a fourth goal?’. We won’t take anything with us from this game. We just have to learn from our mistakes.”
It will be had to see how Milan will compete against the likes of Barcelona, Madrid and even Benfica. The Rossoneri might be flying high in the Serie A, but after Tuesday’s match, they weaknesses were exposed for all to see including their competitors.
It’s no secret that to beat Milan, all you have to do is run at them and hit them hard on the counter attacks. Their slowness especially in going forward will cost them dearly as the tournament progress.
The draw for the quarters is expected will be made next Friday and it will be interesting to see which team Milan are paired against. However, Milan’s unpredictability could end up taking them all the way.
