I have always been a fan of Huntelaar and his departure from Milan is one of the down points for the Rossoneri this summer. However, if his leaving will open the door for Robihno, then in my case, it was good riddance.
Huntelaar is not only a top class striker but also one of the most talented players who have been taken for granted. The 26 year old Dutchman failed to excite in his first season with Milan because of inadequate exposure.
Changing clubs is not as easy as it seems especially when you are moving from one league to another. In my opinion, Huntelaar needed more time to adapt to the Serie A to bring out his lethal goal scoring abilities. Who knows, had he stayed this season may be would have reproduced his Ajax form for Milan.
It is obvious that Huntelaar did not want to leave. However, tough times call for tough decisions. With the arrival of Ibrahimovic and Brazilian star Robinho rumoured to be on the way, Huntelaar did what any other player would do- leave.
“It is true I never wanted to leave Milan but that changed when Ibrahimovic came,” said Huntelaar.
Apparently am no the only one who feels the same. Many Milan fans are expressing their fears should any of the top strikers get an injury. A loan deal would have been better . In fact, in my opinion, Borriello should have left instead of Huntelaar.
That said, Huntelaar will surprise many this season with Schalke. And then Galliani and Berlusconi will see just how wrong they were.
