Barcelona are reportedly looking for £30m for Fabregas, which seems low for the 27-year-old, and they are contractually obliged to let Arsenal match any bid they receive.
But with Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla, Arsene Wenger reportedly feels that he has enough quality in midfield and that Fabregas is just more of the same. An Arsenal on Twitter disagreed with that assessment saying:
So now what for Fabregas, who desperately wants to return to the Premier League. The three mist likeliest destinations for him are Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United. City and Liverpool can obviously offer Fabregas the lure of Champions League football, while United can offer him the most money.
Where will he end up? I think this is a straight battle between Liverpool and United. England’s two biggest clubs going to head to head. United were burned by Fabregas’s people last summer and that might make them a little hesitant to move on Fabregas, who would fit perfectly into the center of the Liverpool midfield.
The wild card is what do the Premier League champions do? If Yaya Toure is really wanting to head to PSG, then Fabregas would be a perfect replacement. If Toure stays, I don’t see where Cesc fits into a midfield with Silva, Nasri and Toure.
