Just as it was predicted my many Spanish media, Pep Guardiola has officially confirmed his resignation from Barcelona which will be active by the end of this season, stating the reason was because of tiredness.
In place of the successful coach, Barca have also announced that Guardiola’s current assistant, Tito Vilanova, will take the job next summer, ending several speculation from the media that linked the Catalan with Marcelo Bielsa and Andre Villas-Boas.
The confirmation about Guardiola’s was revealed in a press conference this Friday, and on that event the tactician revealed that staying at Barcelona for four years have been really taking a lot of his energy. He said that the quit decision didn’t arrive just recently as from October, the former midfielder has already said his intention to leave as he doesn’t feel that continuing his experience for another year would be good for him and the club.
“I would like you to understand that this is not an easy decision for me, but I would like to explain my reasons for this decision. I have always wanted short-term contracts. Four years is an eternity as Barca coach. In the month of October I announced to the president and to the sporting director that I thought my spell was coming to an end,” Guardioala revealed .”I have given everything and I have nothing left and need to recharge my batteries. The demands have been great and I have not been able to rest much. I have to recover and the only way I can do that is by distancing myself. Otherwise, we would have ended up damaging each other.”
Although his departure is something that many Barca fans regrets, Guardiola urged that everyone shouldn’t be worried as he has strong confidence with his upcoming successful, Vilanova, who Pep referred as a very skilled tactician. Furthermore, the former Brescia player also explained that with Vilanova’s experience with the club, there shouldn’t be any problem with the players nor tactical setup that the team will be using next season.
“I think the club has taken the best decision possible. He is more than capable. The players know him. He will make few changes. He will give the club and these players something that I thought I could no longer give,” Guardiola added.
