Both Real Madrid and Barcelona were winners yesterday to ensure that their is no let up in the La Liga title race. However, despite the win, things are not looking too rosy for Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho.
Madrid fans were heard jeering Mourinho despite his side’s 4-1 over Athletic Bilbao. The main reason for their actions was that they are getting tired of always falling short in the El Clasico fixture against arch rivals Barcelona.
Being a Madrid fan myself, i feel the frustrations of the club supporters. In all their 9 meetings since taking over from Pellegrini in 2010, Mourinho has only managed to beat Guardiola’s Barcelona once!
Of course nobody can forget their humiliating 5-0 at the Nou Camp in November of 2010 and from the look of things, not even being crowned La Liga champions will be enough for the fans.
Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho remains unfazed by the jeers saying that he will only respond to them by working hard.
“There is no problem, it did not happen to me at Porto, Chelsea or Inter, but there is always a first time for everything,” Mourinho said.
“Here, [Zinedine] Zidane received whistles, just like Ronaldo and Cristiano Ronaldo. Why could not I receive whistles?
“Zidane, Ronaldo and Cristiano responded with their goals. I will try to respond with my work.”
His opposite colleague Guardiola has a different view on Madrid’s run this far in the season. Also speaking after his sides 4-1 win over Malaga, Guardiola was quoted as saying that Madrid’s run has eclipsed his side’s form in the first round of the season.
“Madrid took merit from Barca’s sensational first round,” Guardiola said.
“They had a fantastic first round and we dropped important points, which they did not.
“It is always hard to play at Mestalla, Anoeta or Cornella, because the teams there always play well.”
With 2 more meetings against Barca left this season, Mourinho knows that the expectations of his fans cannot be downplayed. A loss for Madrid in both meetings and the cracks in the club could grow bigger.
