Good News and Bad News for Barcelona as They go on to Defeat Atletico Madrid but are set to miss Messi for 2 weeks

It was not an easy win for Barcelona but the Catalan club was able to defeat Atletico Madrid 2-1. Bouncing back from their embarrassing loss from newly promoted club, Hercules, the Spanish champions went on to put an impressive victory at Madrid.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring early in the 13th minute but the lead was short lived as Raul Garcia netted the equalizer just 10 minutes later.

Barcelona had a number of chances to find a net but David De Gea did superb in the net for Atletico Madrid. However, Spanish defender, Gerard Pique, was able to put Barca ahead with a blast from close range.

In the final minutes of the game, Tomas Ujfalusi, was shown a straight red for his studs up challenge on Lionel Messi. Definitely a challenge that should be reviewed, Messi had to be carried off the field on a stretcher and was reported to be set to miss the next 2 weeks.  Pep Guardiola went on to say the following after the match:

”He’ll be having more tests tomorrow, but in principle a break has been ruled out. He’s injured and the doctors will tell us how he is. Let’s hope the first diagnosis is correct and we can help get him fit again. He’s very sad and in tears. These things happen in football.”

Barcelona now sit 5th in the standings but are looking to be much better after having fell short to Hercules last week. With Messi set to miss 2 weeks of action (As reported) it will be interesting in seeing how the Catalan club will be without his services. A great win for Barcelona as Atletico Madrid are definitely a tough team to play at home.
