Genoa seems set to be one of must watch teams for serie A’s big guns this season as they have been making some heavy re-enforcement this season and another surprising addition to The Grifone’s lines up for the upcoming season is Brazilian right back, Rafinha.
The young defender’s signing was announced by the club’s president, Enrico Preziosi, who revealed that the former Schalke player will be official confirmed as Genoa player as soon as he pass the medical test being that’s currently being done.
Should the talented Brazilian player full back complete all of signing procedure, he would be the Italian club’s 7th major signing this summer after previously acquiring the likes of Luca Toni, Eduardo, Andrea Rannochia (co-owned with Inter), Chico, Franco Zuculini and Miguel Veloso.
Genoa’s success in acquiring Rafinha’s signature can be considered as one of the surprise transfers this summer as previously there were several big clubs such as Ac Milan, Juventus, Bayern Muenchen and also Inter Milan, that are also keen in getting the 24-years-old player’s service. Getting ahead of those big and prestigious clubs surely proves that the Grifone are very serious in trying to compete in serie A this season.
Moreover, report also said that in order to snatch Rafinha from Schalke, Genoa have splash out around 8 million Euro to the Bundesliga outfit. That kind of amount is actually a very decent price for the talented full-back as he has been regarded as one of the exciting prospect in Brazilian football in the future.
With those kind of signings and the current players that they already have, on paper Genoa could be one of the surprising act this season that might have a shot in getting into the top 5 positions in the league. However, everything will depend a lot on Gian Piero Gasperini’s tactical setup and his ability to make the new signings comfortable playing in tough league like Serie A.
