Some shocking news for you today. Former Inter Milan and AC Milan Brazilian winger Mancini has been sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison after he was found guilty of rape.
Not many will remember Mancini as a Milan player because he only made 7 appearances for the club before returning to his boyhood club Atletico Mineiro, however, his stint with capital club Roma is where his skill was brought to the fore.
His fancy footwork and neat flicks is what many fans will remember him for. His amazing goals against Lazio in his debut season and against Lyon in the 2006/2007 Champions League season are sen by some as some of the most beautiful goals ever scored.
However, all that is now history. Mancini was apparently accused of sexual harassment by a woman in December last year and after a lengthy trial a Milan jdge found him guilty and sentenced him to prison.
Reports suggest that the he met the woman at a party hosted by former Milan team mate and Brazilian compatriot Ronaldinho. He then later committed the offense at his apartment.
A friend of Mancini Gerardo Eugenio do Nascimento was also sentenced to 10 months in prison for trying to coerce the victim not to report the matter to the police.
At 31 years of age, it is safe to say that Mancini’s career could very well be over, however, what is even worse is the bad publicity he is receiving from the consequences of his actions.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have stated that they will only sign want away Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez on loan with the option to buy him at the end of the of the season.
Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani said this in an interview with Gazetta Dello Sport.
“Whoever comes to Milan in January will be on loan for free, with an option to make that stay permanent,” he said.
“Tevez? We will see, there’s time. Probably if we had not had (Antonio) Cassano’s situation, we would remain as we are.”
