First Match Woes Haunt Milan As They Failed To Advance in Europe

Camiseta conmemorativa del MilánComing into the game needing a win to book their ticket into the next round of the Champions League, Ac Milan showed a classy performance at White Hart Lane but combination of poor finishing and bad luck simply ruin their day.

Despite playing away from home, the Rossoneri actually played a much more better game than their first leg, however series of missed opportunities created by Pato and Robinho in front of the goal diminished the Red and Black squad’s overall superiority on the pitch.

Looking to turn back the 1-0 defeat they got in the first leg, the Rossoneri started with a very offensive line up at front with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robinho and Alexandro Pato all playing from the start added with Kevin Prince Boateng’s return Milan dominated the match since the start of the game. Clarence Seedorf playing in rare holding midfield role really provide a strong control in the midfield allowing his teammates to dominate possession in the midfield making the home team had to defend deep.

Milan’s pressure nearly got their reward as they managed to create dangerous goal scoring chances through Pato and notably Robinho, who annoyingly miss kick an easy chance in front of the goal although it lead to a goal line clearance from William Gallas. The Rossoneri’s pressure keeps on growing as the game goes on, even when Spurs brought Gareth Bale in the second half, they were still being pinned back a lot as once again Pato and Robinho failed to hit the back of the net while Ibrahimovic seemed difficult in getting goal scoring chances.

In the end the result favored the luckier one, Spurs did their job, get their reward after scoring an away goal in the first leg that comes from a classic counter attack that the Rossoneri failed to handle. That first leg defeat haunts them as despite playing very well in the second leg, the burden of having to win and score seemed to distract the Milan players especially the strikers, who looked impatient at times despite having lots of good scoring chances.

This result should be a lesson for Milan in the future as they are getting better in terms of performance but in the Champions League, mistakes are not allowed and being clinical in finishing their chances is a must. Surely the Rossoneri will very much focus their eyes on domestic championship as they are still very much able to get two trophies this season and without the Champions League schedule haunting them, it could actually be a blessing in disguise considering they have plenty important players that are still injured and cup tied in Europe.
