Until the eight week of Serie A, Fiorentina’s season can be considered as a horrendous one as the Florence based side still found themselves in the bottom half of the league despite getting their second victory in the league last weekend.
However, along with that 2-1 win against Bari things could soon turn into the Viola’s favor as starting from next week they will be able to field one of the important players they have been missing recently, Adrian Mutu.
The Romanian international who previously received a nine months suspension because of doping will have his ban ends this upcoming Thursday which means the striker would be available to play in Fiorentina’s upcoming match against Catania. Despite haven’t had a serious football action in quite a while, the Viola’s coach, Sinijsa Mihaljovic, stated that he might field Mutu on Sunday although the coach isn’t sure whether to put the 30-years-old right from the start or play him as a subtitute.
“I have spoken to him, He is calm and it’s best for him that he stays that way, Mihaljovic stated. “Joking aside, I am thinking about using him on Sunday. I don’t know if from the start or not.”
Mihaljovic’s statement is also a follow up to previous confirmation from Fiorentina sporting director, Pantaleo Corvino who already stated that Mutu will be on the squad that set to play against Catania on Sunday. Having two important people in the Viola ranks already confirmed Mutu’s availability next weekend it’s pretty much a sure bet that the Romanian should at least be among the squad brought to Sicily.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Corvino said, “He’ll be there in Catania,”
Although he has been absent for quite a long time, Mutu’s availability is a very important aspect for Fiorentina as the team currently have plenty young players that needs someone experienced enough to lead them. Not to mention with lots of injuries that keeps on coming to some of the Viola’s important players such as Gaetano D’agostino and Stevan Jovetic, the Florence based side’s often find difficulties in beating their opponents including the weaker teams.
Many Fiorentina fans are hoping that the Romanian can help Fiorentina improve the results their having and bring the Viola back into the top seeds to challenge for at least an European spot next season. However, it would surely takes a while before Mutu find his match sharpness back considering the long absent that he had due to his doping ban, so patient will still be needed for the fans.
