Arsenal’s captain and highest earning player Cesc Fabregas might not be leaving the Emirates after all. The 23 year old who has been a major centre of attention this summer could still be a gunner in the new season. This is according to former Arsenal great Kenny Sansom.
Fabregas has been involved in a protracted transfer battle with his former club Barcelona ever since the season ended. The Catalans have always expressed their desire to re-sign their former youth player to the extent of some of his national team mates who are mostly Barca players pranking him by making him wear a Barcelona jersey during Spain’s World Club celebration.
However, even in the midst of all this, Arsene Wenger remain unfazed and always maintained that Cesc will remain with the club. According to Sansom, Wenger himself told him that Fabregas would not be leaving.
“I’ve had a chat with Arsene Wenger and he told me he’s going to stay, which is great news,” Sansom said, according to ESPNSoccernet. “It’s a good day for the club, with all the fans being here to see Cesc back here, they all look up to him and it’s great news that he’s stopping.”
With reports flying helter sketer, it is not yet officially confirmed that Fabregas will remain at Arsenal, however, it is a great inication at so the tone and manner in which his transfer talks are being conducted.
Personally, i would rather he stay at Arsenal where he has already cemented a regular position than he move to a club where competition for a starting role is more than fierce.
For now however, Fabregas remains a Gunner.
