Eto’o Controversially Saves Inter At San Siro

samuel eto'oAfter crashing into a 3-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspurs in the Champions League last midweek, another disappointing results comes for Inter Milan in their latest Serie A fixture as the Nerazzurri were held by Bari 1-1.

Last season’s treble winner might consider them to be a bit lucky as they needed a controversial penalty, that was converted by Samuel Eto’o, to ear a draw against the low league table side.

Playing in front of their home crowd, Inter understandably were looking to take control of the game through Wesley Senijder and Eto’o who kept on creating chances for the home team. However, despite the constant pressure that the home side made it was Bari that managed to take a shock lead just before the 15 minute mark through Andrea Caraciolo, who nutmegged Walter Samuel before steering the ball pass Luca Castelazzi at the Nerazzurri’s goal.

Knowing that they are in danger of getting another embarrassing result, the Nerazzurri gives more pressure to the away team and managed to create few chance mainly through Eto’o and Pandev. Unfortunately for the Nerazzurri, just when they have plenty problems in threatening Bari’s defense, the home team loss few important players such as, Douglas Maicon, Sneijder and Walter Samuel due to injury problems.

Having needed to make shift their squad in the second half, Inter were getting more frustrated with the stubbornness of Brescia’s defense that keep on holding it tight until the controversial decision occurred in the 70th minute. Eto’o who was chasing Goran Pandev’s through ball, seemed to slip in the box without any challenge from the away team’s defender but the referee decided that it was a foul and give the penalty for the Nerazzurri that was easily converted by the Cameroon international himself.

Unfortunately, the goal from Eto’o was the last meaningful action in the game although Inter did create one or two more chances but a big credit should definitely be given to Brescia that bravely played through the five minutes injury time and still come away with a point at San Siro. This result will definitely puts Inter under an intense pressure especially since the fact that they have lost Maicon, Sneijder and Samuel who will make things even harder for them in the next upcoming games considering the Nerazzurri have previously lost plenty players because of the same problem.
