The Africa Cup of Nations came to an end last night in a very spectacular fashion. Defending champions Egypt made history when they became the first African nation to successfully defend the title for the third time.
The pharaohs left it late to beat a very impressive Ghana by a solitary goal thanks to their super sub Mohamed Gedo. Ghana totally outclassed the Pharaohs and it was just a case of experience over youth carrying the day. Ghana who were without 5 of their regular players, showed great resilience and took the match to Egypt right from the kick-off whistle.
I have to be honest and say that Ghana were the better of two sides and if they can play that well with a squad made up mostly of U-20 players then there is no telling what they can do at the world cup when all their stars will be available. Egypt have now won the title a record 7 times and last night’s win was a good consolation for not making it to South Africa. Despite poor showings from the continents powerhouses, i still believe they stand a great chance of doing great in South Africa . This is a warning to all other participants, underestimate the African sides at your peril.
