Chelsea’s Portuguese midfielder Deco is set to leave the English champions after an unimpressive 2 year stint in London. Deco was part of the trio that included Eto’o and Ronaldinho who were offloaded by former Barcelona president Joan Laporta after the executive claimed that they were the main reason for growing disquiet in the Nou Camp.
The 32 year old Brazilian born Portuguese had a year left on his contract however, he will not be seeing it out. Bought from Barcelona for 8 million Pounds, Deco was Luis Felipe Scolari’s first signing.
Deco is yet another star that walks out of Chelsea’s gates after Ballack and Joe Cole left the Bridge after their contracts run out at the end of the season. With a crucial fixture against Manchester United in the Community Shield tomorrow Chelsea are keen on winning their third title of 2010 and not even Man U can come between them.
Deco is in the process of finalising negotiations with Brazilian club Fluminense. Speaking to O Globo Deco said that a fax was all his was waiting for.
“Chelsea have chosen not to speak to the press until the end of negotiations,” “All I am waiting on is a fax to close the deal with Fluminense.”
Although a Chelsea fan, I have never really been a fan of Deco and frankly, his move would not hurt the club one iota.Largely used as a substitute, Deco failed to replicate the form he had with Barca and if his move occurs, then it would be a win win situation for both the player and the club. Chelsea would save money and the player could re-ignite his career in a less competitive league.
