DC United Finally Get a Goalkeeper

Although it was rumored that DC United were after LA Galaxy keeper Joe Cannon it seems that they have settled on Houston Dynamo’s keeper Zach Wells instead.

This week D.C. United traded defender Bobby Boswell to the Dynamo for goalkeeper Zach Wells and a conditional 2009 draft pick. Wells will replace DC United keeper Troy Perkins who is being sold to a Scandinavian club. Expect to see an announcement soon on that deal.

When Perkins leaves that will make 3 DC starters who have left already this off- season after midfielder Brian Carroll was selected by San Jose in the expansion draft before quickly being traded to Columbus.

This is a good move for Houston. They just lost Clarence Goodson, who was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes in last month’s expansion draft, and they replace him with an MLS All-Star.

“We are delighted to add a player of Boswell’s caliber to our organization,” Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear said. “Adding depth on the backline was an offseason priority, and we are pleased to have accomplished that with such an outstanding player.
