In Barcelona’s last match against Athletic Bilbao, Villa was shown a red-card that will now see him miss the Catalan’s club next game.
After having been brought down by Bilbao defender, Carlos Gurpegi, Villa let his emotions take over him and reacted. Following the challenge, Villa punched the defender as he was walking away in which did not go unseen. Although it wasn’t a superman punch, Villa was obviously going to be facing a punishment for his reactions. Click this link to see Villa’s punch that resulted in him being suspended. David Villa’s Red-Card against Bilbao
Barcelona still went on to win the match 3-1 but will now have to miss Villa’s services when they take on Real Mallorca at Camp Nou on Sunday.
As for Athletic Bilbao, Fernando Amorebieta was shown a red-card as well and will be missing Bilbao’s next game against Valencia. Amorebieta’s red-card came for his challenge on Andres Iniesta.
Although a heated game between both sides, up 2 goals, I don’t see the reason why Villa reacted the way he did. There was definitely some rough housing between Villa and Gurpegi, but not enough for the way Villa reacted.
