Eddie Gaven and Robbie Rogers have been called to the final Olympic Qualifying Camp.
Columbus Crew midfielders Robbie Rogers and Eddie Gaven have recently been called up to the U.S. Under 23 National Team by coach Peter Nowak. The call up is for participation in the training camp for 2008 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. The camp will be held in Bradenton, Fla from March 1-9. After 20 players for the team have been chosen they will travel to Tampa, Florida where the first round games will be held for Group A. The 20-player roster for the team may also have players that are not in the Bradenton training camp and the final roster will be announced before the team travels to Tampa.
In the 2007 MLS season Gaven scored 5 goals and 7 assists in his second full season with the Crew. Rogers had 3 goals and 1 assist with the Crew in his first year with the club, after he came over from Holland playing with Heerenveen of the Dutch First Division.
Of the 17 players in the camp from the MLS Real Salt Lake has the most representatives with the three players of Robbie Findley, Chris Seitz and Sturgis. The Columbus Crew, Chicago Fire, FC Dallas, New York Red Bulls, Houston Dynamo and Toronto FC have two players in the camp and Chivas USA and the LA Galaxy will send one player.
The first game for the U.S. team will be against Cuba on March 11. The other teams that are in Group A are Honduras and Panama. Group B consists of Haiti, Canada, and Guatemala, and Mexico and will play their games at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The semifinals and the finals will be held in Nashville and the two finalists in the tournament will be going to the Olympics in Beijing.
The 2008 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying can be seen on ESPN Deportes, who will show all 16 games. ESPN360.com will also show all the games over the Internet and will also show repays of all of the games. English-language broadcast information will be announced soon.
